Carrie Fisher’s mother Debbie Reynolds hospitalised

Just one day after the death of her daughter Carrie Fisher, actress Debbie Reynolds has been rushed to hospital with a suspected stroke. The news will bring yet more heartache to the family, which has no doubt not even begun to process the passing of Star Wars actress Fisher. Reynolds had taken to Facebook on Tuesday to post tributes to her daughter. The Oscar nominated actress wrote “Thank you to everyone who has embraced the gifts and talents of my beloved and amazing daughter. I am grateful for your thoughts and prayers that are now guiding her to her next stop.”


Debbie Reynolds is a renowned actress from a golden era in film. Most notable is her starring role in cult Hollywood classic “Singing in the rain” opposite one of Hollywood’s great leading men Gene Kelly. She like her daughter was a prolific actress continuing to act late in to her career. She is also known as a collected of film memorabilia and has spent a life working towards creating a Hollywood based museum. It is unknown whether her illness is connected to the loss of her daughter, but given the timing it is highly likely to at least be a factor.


Her daughter Carrie Fisher passed away in hospital after having a cardiac arrest on a flight from London to Los Angeles. The 60 year old star was rushed to hospital but died from the damage done by the cardiac arrest. The actress was known to many for her most famous role as Princess Leia from the Star Wars franchise, but she was also a talented novelist and screenwriter. Outpourings of grief from legions of fans and colleagues have poured in from all corners of the globe. An immensely talented actress, Fisher was thrust in to the limelight with unlikely hit Star Wars in 1977. Cast from being something of an unknown quantity, though following in her mother’s successful footsteps, Fisher went on to be a prolific actress working continuously up until her sudden and tragic passing.


It will be hoped that her mother can make a full recovery, though few details have been made public so far, it is likely that Reynolds will receive almost limitless support from the public at such a hard time.
