Legendary actress Zsa Zsa Gabor has died aged 99, the well known actress and socialite’s death was confirmed by her publicist Ed Lozzi. The Hungarian actress was perhaps most infamously known for being married on nine occasions. She was a consummate professional and continued on with acting well in to her twilight. She starred in numerous productions from the 1950’s right through to the 1990’s. She only retired from public life in 2011, after a leg amputation left her house bound.

She starred in everything from the Moulin Rouge in the 1950’s to TV’s “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” in the 1990’s. In 1990 she became infamous for slapping a traffic cop after being stopped for driving with an expired licence, an act that ended up with the star doing 120 hours community service. She later went on to use the incident in the film The Naked Gun 2 and 1/2 to comedic effect.

She was also in a life threatening car accident in 2002 after a vehicle she was in crashed in to a pole in Los Angeles on the famous Sunset boulevard. She was air lifted to hospital but went on to make a full recovery.

The star was also a famed beauty from a golden era, she was Miss Hungary in 1936, and her stunning looks certainly opened many doors for her in Hollywood. She was famed for having a certain European flair, that was uncommon to America at the time.

The family migrated from Hungary, at the time her mother left she had to flee the nazi’s to resettle with her family in America. They settled in the US in 1941, Gabor had already started her ascent by then in 1934 she was chosen by a famous Austrian tenor to be part of an opera in Vienna. She had a noted singing voice and was also a talented writer with a novel she co-wrote being picked up in 1944.

Her tremendous talent was only matched by her tempestuous nature, her nine marriages are a testament to a life full of ups and downs, and though often vilified in the press, managed to keep her grace and charm until the end. The world has lost a unique talent, and there will be many glowing tributes left for someone of such a legendary status.
