'I've always dreamed about being at a World Cup': Spain's rising star Yamal

In the FIFA World Cup 2026 match against Saudi Arabia, Spain emerged victorious by 4-0 at the Atlanta Stadium in Georgia.
During the match, Spain’s rising star Lamine Yamal registered a goal in the 10th minute.
Speaking about the match, he labelled it as “special” and said that he had dreamt about being a part of the team at the FIFA World Cup.
“It’s special. I’ve always dreamed about being at a World Cup, and being able to score in my first start is a dream. I watched the last World Cup in class at school. Being here is great,” he said according to ESPN.
Yamal, who had been limited to a brief appearance against Cabo Verde as he continued his recovery from a hamstring injury, was substituted at halftime with Spain already holding a commanding 3-0 lead. Spain’s manager Luis de la Fuente said that, considering the match’s situation, his contribution was enough for the team’s management.
“He would have played for longer, but considering the result and the match was under control, we considered his contribution was enough. The next game, we could have him for a full match. He’s back, and he’s fit,” he said.
The 18-year-old footballer then spoke about his relationship with de la Fuente and said that he would always give his best while representing Spain.
“I have a very good relationship [with De la Fuente]; there is complete trust. He asks how I’m doing and how I’m feeling, and I told him I’m ready to play — I’m here for Spain and will always give 100 per cent,” said Yamal.
