In the FIFA World Cup 2026 final against Argentina, Spain emerged victorious by 1-0 at the New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford.
Following the conclusion of the marquee event, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has revealed that more than 1.7 billion people watched the tournament-related videos on YouTube. With this, the 2026 edition became the platform’s most-viewed World Cup ever.
Sharing an update on the milestone, Pichai took to social media. “The numbers are in: 1.7B+ global viewers tuned in to @YouTube to watch World Cup-related videos during the tournament. It was our most viewed World Cup ever on YouTube, bringing lifetime views of related content to over 200B!,” read the post’s caption.

Earlier, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan also shared a post about the global showpiece’s achievement on the platform. He shared key viewership figures from the tournament, highlighting the role played by creators in engaging football fans throughout the competition. Mohan also congratulated Spain’s national team for emerging victorious.

Following the triumph, the Spanish players enjoyed the victory parade on an open-top bus through the streets of Madrid, with a jubilant crowd of an estimated two million people.
The players, some shirtless, others holding drinks, set off on their procession under a blazing sun along the main arteries in the city centre, where a sea of fans in red and yellow were waiting before the squad arrived at Cibeles Square.
Ferran Torres’ crucial goal in the 106th minute helped Spain to clinch the second FIFA World Cup title. Speaking about the experience, he said, “I’m very happy to see how excited all of the children are… [and] to have the parade and celebrate with all of the Spaniards”.
