Cathedral girls edge out Holy Cross 2-1 to advance to quarter-finals

Defending champions Cathedral and John Connon (Fort) booked their spot in the quarter-finals with a narrow 2-1 win over Holy Cross High School (Mira Road) in a Pool ‘B’ Girls U-16 Div-I match of the Dream Sports-Mumbai School Sports Association football tournament at the Wings Sports Centre, Bandra, on Friday.
Cathedral drew first blood in the 11th minute when skipper Anasuya Raju found space and slotted a precise finish into the bottom right corner, giving the Fort school a 1-0 advantage at half-time. Holy Cross refused to back down and restored parity via a spot-kick from Marilyn Crasto (29th min). However, Cathedral hit back in the closing moments as Taara Doshi (30th min) netted the late winner.
