Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has voiced the need for more signings during a transfer window in which the club’s expenditure has fallen short of their primary Premier League competitors.
United have invested roughly USD 115 million to secure three arrivals, midfielders Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans and goalkeeper Karl Darlow, while also reintegrating Marcus Rashford into the squad following his loan stint at Barcelona.
Entering his first full campaign at the helm, which includes leading the Red Devils back into Champions League football, Carrick believes further recruitment is necessary.
“I think we’ve done really good business and we’ve got some really top, top, top players. We’re delighted with that. We always want to improve,” Carrick said.
“We want more, we need more, we keep looking for how we can do that.”
In contrast, rivals Chelsea, Manchester City, and Tottenham have each broken the GBP 100 million threshold on individual signings, bringing in Morgan Rogers, Elliot Anderson, and Sandro Tonali, respectively. Chelsea’s total outlay on new talent has topped USD 450 million.
“Certainly the situation is what it is as well, whether that’s finances or whatever,” Carrick added regarding the club’s position. “For now, we’ve got to make the most of it, but we’ve got to keep pushing and push everything and every boundary that we can to be able to win again.”

Marcus Rashford rejoined United this week after the World Cup following Barcelona’s decision not to trigger their purchase option on the England international.
Addressing questions on whether the forward could be sold, Carrick offered a firm stance.
“He’s our player, and he’s a good player, and he gives us something a little bit different in the group. Marcus can offer us so much. He has done, and he can do again, so in that respect it’s quite exciting,” Carrick said.
United, tied for a record 20 English top-flight crowns, are aiming to mount a title challenge having last claimed the Premier League trophy in 2013. The club finished third last season after sacking Ruben Amorim midway through the Premier League season.
