Cristiano Ronaldo effect: Portugal lose 1.5m online followers

Ever since football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo announced his bombshell decision to leave the Portugal camp on September 30, while hinting at a rift with head coach Jorge Jesus, the national team’s Instagram account has lost more than 1.5 million followers.
The Portugal account, which had around 24.9 million followers before Ronaldo’s decision, fell to 23.3 million in a little over 24 hours, amid the controversy surrounding the superstar’s departure.
Ronaldo, 41, who was not brought on by Jesus during Portugal’s recent UEFA Nations League game against Norway, appeared visibly frustrated at the final whistle.
On Wednesday, Ronaldo took to social media to announce his departure from the national team camp.
