Legendary Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has been named in the national squad by the new head coach, Jorge Jesus, for the upcoming Nations League’s matches.
Portugal will kick off the Nations League’s campaign by playing a clash against Wales at home on September 24. The side will then lock horns with Norway in an away game on September 27. The Portuguese men will travel to Denmark for the match on October 1, and later will host Norway on October 4.
Earlier, during the concluded FIFA World Cup 2026, Ronaldo said that it would be his last appearance at the tournament. However, he has not yet confirmed when he will retire from international football.
By the time the European Championship 2028 takes place, he will be 43, according to ESPN. Ronaldo is the leading goal-scorer in men’s international football. His biggest achievement with the national team came in 2016 when he helped the side win its first-ever European Championship title.
Portugal’s squad announcement for the Nations League also marked Jesus’ first selection since taking over the charge of the team after replacing Roberto Martinez when the side suffered a 0-1 defeat against Spain in the round of 16 of the global tournament.
Earlier, Jesus managed Ronaldo at Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, where the team won the league title together last season.
Recently, the footballer confirmed his marriage to long-time partner Georgina Rodriguez. He shared a post on his official social media handle. In the picture, Cristiano and Georgina are holding each other’s hands and wearing their rings.
